"Active Galactic Nuclei: observations, theory, and simulations"

We are happy to announce the Ninth International Summer School of Modern Astrophysics. The school takes place on 1 - 12 July 2013 at the Radio Astronomy Observatory in Pushchino located a two hour drive away from downtown Moscow. The school is primarily aimed at graduate students and postdocs and will be limited to about 40 participants. The working language of the school is English.

This year the summer school covers theory and observations of active galactic nuclei (AGN). At first, the school will provide an overview of multi-wavelength observations of AGN and include practice sessions that will give the participants hands-on experience in analyzing radio observations carried out with very long baseline interferometers (VLBI) and the recently launched ''Radioastron'' satellite. On the theory side, the participants will learn the fundamentals and recent developments in the understanding of AGN central engines, including black hole accretion and relativistic ejection, and will get hands-on experience in constructing first-principles models of these astrophysical systems using magnetized fluid dynamics numerical methods.
